We stand with Afghans
After two decades, the Taliban has seized power over Afghanistan again. Taliban insurgents swept through the country, capturing all major cities in a matter of days as Afghan security forces crumbled, which ultimately led to the collapse of the Afghan government.

Following the outbreak of COVID-19, Kay Hollanders embarked on a research project to find out how the pandemic has become an obstruction in the path to advance human rights and whether it has led human rights into a state of crisis.

A tribute to Ileana Lacayo, Nicaraguan journalist and human rights defender
With much sadness, we announce the passing of human rights defender, journalist and former Shelter City Costa Rica and Utrecht guest, Ileana Lacayo. She was an independent journalists who promoted social mobilisation, advocacy and campaigns in defense of freedom of expression, respect for women's rights, nonviolence, territorial laws of indigenous peoples including afro-descendants.
