#GreenLight initiative for refugees

Over the past weeks, the numbers of refugees stuck at the Polish-Belarusian border have grown from a few to several thousand. This is the result of Belarus’ geopolitics and Poland’s policy of stopping and returning undocumented migrants and refugees to their home countries. For the people fleeing, Europe starts in these countries, however applying for asylum is made impossible.

Centre stage to: Cultural Ambassador Mogos

The cultural and social differences between the Netherlands and the countries of origin of newcomers are usually big. However, new acquaintances, friends, and colleagues can help refugees find their way in a new neighborhood or at their new job. Unfortunately, many newcomers find difficulty in building a new social network in the Netherlands. A reason for Mogos to join Samen Hier as a Cultural Ambassador.

A humane migration policy

From 1 to 17 March, a ‘Lopend Vuur’ (‘Spreading the Fire’) was spreading through the Netherlands, during which vigils and routes took place in more than seventy villages and towns. The campaign showed that there is support for a different migration policy.

Human rights, the Rotterdam way

On the 10th of December, the International Day of Human Rights, two Sudanese refugees arrived in Rotterdam directly from their host country Egypt. On this Human Rights Day, the two refugees were welcomed by Rotterdammers who want to fight for their human rights and for a good start of their new future in Rotterdam.

A growing friendship

As a remedial educationalist, Rotterdam-based Sanne Vink works with children and adolescents in need of treatment and a listening ear. Her relationship with the children of Anis and Houda Abdulmajid from Syria is different. The families, both part of the Samen Hier Group ‘Together Groos’, share their family lives with each other.
