Human Rights Communications Internship
To support our communications, we are looking for two interns to join our team.
36 hours a week
Start date: September 2025
Period: +/- 6 months
Justice & Peace Netherlands is a non-profit organization in The Hague committed to promoting human rights and social justice worldwide and in the Netherlands. To achieve this, we focus on innovative, positive, and impactful approaches at the local level. Through our initiatives Shelter City, Samen Hier, and Move 4 Human Rights, we create new ways to bring local changemakers together and empower them to contribute to just, sustainable, and welcoming societies.
Activities
- Creating new content for online channels managed by Justice & Peace and monitoring performances. This means that you handle communications on social media, newsletters, and the website by creating posts, writing articles, etc.
- Supporting the gathering and production of communication materials, for example by taking pictures, videos and/or creating promotional booklets, banners, etc.
- Updating the content strategy and monitoring its performance.
- Tailoring the content to the goals and target audiences of Justice & Peace and its programmes and ensuring that content is created within the framework of our brands and brand guidelines.
- Supporting the organization of events and campaigns for Justice & Peace and its programmes.
- Being involved in communications meetings of Justice & Peace to ensure consistency in communication through the different channels.
- Being involved in the entire organization and thinking along with the communications team about possible improvements.
We are looking for candidates with the following competencies and background:
- You are creative and have affinity and demonstrable experience with content creation, including experience with content creation tools, such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, or other editing tools.
- You have an educational background relating to media/communications (or similar), or a discipline related to (international) human rights and experience with communications.
- You can demonstrate skills in organizing events, writing, and creating content, such as engaging social media posts, articles, photography, video and photo editing. Campaigning experience is beneficial.
- You know how to convert complex messages into understandable and appealing texts for a wider audience via various (online) channels and quickly master the tone of voice of our brands.
- You have excellent English language skills (spoken and written). Professional knowledge of Dutch is considered a strong asset.
- You are able to work together with a team and independently and are eager to contribute with fresh ideas and perspectives.
- You showcase flexibility and can manage your time and work on multiple deadlines at the same time.
Note: Hired individuals might be exposed to trauma-sensitive environments.
What we offer
- A fee of €500 gross per month (based on a full working week of 36 hours);
- Full reimbursement of travel allowance (2nd class) up to 100 km from the office;
- A flexible workplace at our office in The Hague city centre;

- The opportunity to learn more about human rights, human rights defenders, and migration, as well as to meet organizations and institutions working in the field of human rights.
Candidates are not required to be a university student. Candidates must have a residency permit, work visa, or be a citizen of a European Union country to be able to work in the Netherlands immediately. Justice & Peace is unfortunately unable to support you in acquiring this. Candidates must be able to come to the office in person at least three days a week, and have a suitable remote working arrangement.
