Génesis, standing up for justice in Venezuela

Watch this short documentary about Génesis Dávila, a human rights lawyer, defender, and founder of Defiende Venezuela. Génesis was a participant of our initiative Shelter City, a global movement of safe spaces to support human rights defenders at risk. Her temporary stay in Shelter City Rotterdam provided her with with a safe environment to continue her work, rest and re-energise, and strengthen her capacities.

This film, created by a team of talented filmmakers from Mamedia, follows the story of Génesis Dávila, a trained lawyer, founder of organisation Defiende Venezuela, and human rights defender. In this short documentary, Génesis sheds light on the everyday situation that many Venezuelans living in the country face today, provides insight into her work as a human rights defender, and shares how others can take action and show solidarity.

This film was created by filmmakers Yannick Jason, Nazli Ulucan, and Kai van Leeuwen from Mamedia (part of the Mediacollege Amsterdam). We want to thank them for all their hard work in realising this film, and a special thank you to Génesis for taking part in this project.
