Application call: Move 4 Human Rights – Join the Youth Trajectory for Change

Empower your voice. Connect with peers. Take action for social justice. Move 4 Human Rights (M4HR) gives young people in the Netherlands the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and create real impact in their communities.

What is it about?

What would you do if you had the power to make a difference in your community? At Justice & Peace, this is the question we ask ourselves every day, and now we are asking you too. Whether your answer is clear or still taking shape, if you want to play your part, this is your moment.

We are looking for students, recent graduates, young professionals, and those with a migration or refugee background to join the Youth Trajectory for Change, part of the Move 4 Human Rights initiative — a space where diverse youth voices shape dialogue and drive change in our communities.

The trajectory

Over four months, you will take part in the M4HR trajectory — a Maatschappelijke Diensttijd (MDT) programme that combines training, inspiration, and hands-on practice. You will learn directly from professionals in the field working on migration, inclusion, and social justice.

Design and carry out your own local impact project, for example:

  • Organize a storytelling event where newcomers and locals share their journeys.
  • Launch a small campaign in your neighbourhood about equal opportunities.
  • Set up a community dialogue to bridge differences and build trust.

You don’t need to arrive with a finished idea. Together with peers, mentors, and trainers, you will shape a project that matches your vision for positive change.

Move 4 Human Rights is a collaborative MDT programme between human rights organizations and educational institutions based in The Netherlands. This project offers young people the opportunity to bridge theory and practice by engaging in critical issues surrounding human rights, social justice, and inclusivity.

Why join?

  • All trainings and workshops are free of cost.
  • Gain hands-on experience in social cohesion, migration, and community-building while making a direct impact in the Netherlands.
  • Collaborate with like-minded individuals from various backgrounds, broadening your perspectives and enhancing your network.
  • Receive a Maatschappelijke Diensttijd (MDT) certificate, showcasing your contribution to the project.
  • Work in a hybrid format: most sessions online, with a few in and around The Hague for networking and teamwork

“I love research, but what really drew me was the impact part – being able to turn findings into something tangible. It’s rare to do research and actually see it lead to real change.”
Kristiaan, former Move 4 Human Rights participant

It’s important that you attend these physical gatherings. The first kick-off event will take place on Saturday 25 October. Remember that you need to complete the 80 hours over 4 months to get your certificate, but no worries, times are flexible!

Who can join?

  • Young adults aged 18–30 (who haven’t participated in two MDT programmes before)
  • No prior experience required – just a passion for human rights!
  • Those interested in migration, diversity, inclusion, and community-building.
  • Anyone based in the Netherlands who can join some sessions in and around The Hague.
  • Those available for the full trajectory period (October – February).
  • We welcome young people from all backgrounds and experiences to participate.
